"I work in layers. I begin with a layer of chaos and create order atop it. Comprised of geometric forms, usually circles, these give the illusion of depth. To further push the semblance of deep space, I employ epoxy resin between layers of geometric shapes. I add raw pigment to the resin to tint it to the desired opacity or transparency. This is repeated as many times as necessary. Each successive layer creates the rhythm of the painting. I like to make the work really subtle. Collectors come back to me after years and tell me they are still discovering new aspects of their painting. This is especially true as they are made to be seen in a variety of lighting. The light of the morning hitting the painting will give you one painting, while the light a home at night will reveal other aspects. The usage of iridescent pigments sparkle and shine in one light, but will appear as a solid color in another. In some cases, I use encaustic to further build the surface. In the end, each layer is like a part of an orchestra, simple in themselves but part of a complex whole. I like to think of it as a process which leads to "atmospheric abstraction."
